Here’s a fact of life. Anything that you try for the first time will probably make you uncomfortable. But this nervous feeling in the gut also means that you are learning, that you are growing, and that there is a change coming to your physical or mental health. Let’s say you have been doing yoga for a very long time and you think it would be interesting to try out something new, maybe boxing. Yoga and boxing are polar opposites, so of course your first class won’t be easy. You might be scared, uncomfortable, and looking forward to getting out of there. But the next time will be less uncomfortable, and by the third class you might love it. And if you don’t, then maybe you’ll try something new. Getting out of your comfort zone can feel scary at first, but it brings out the best results. So keep your fear in check and be daring.

  1. Don’t go overboard.

Fitness can sometimes become an addiction, and there can be consequences of trying to do too much too soon. Some of those consequences can include injuries, excessive fatigue, and a negative effect on the immune system.

There are no quick fixes. If you want to get fit, do it the right way. That means a lot of persistence and patience. Enjoy your workout, but do not expect overnight results.

The perfect gym attire will not only support you physically, but it can also give you a confidence boost. Having the right gear works like a statement of intent. It can help you get into the right mindset and find both the serious commitment and enthusiasm that is required to succeed when starting a new routine.

In the worst case scenario, the wrong kit can hurt your feet or fail to protect your knees, your chest, and the rest of your body. It can also restrict movement, setting you up to fail. So to summarise, make sure you are ready with the right gym clothes so you are prepared for your new workout.

  1. The overlooked benefits of warming up and cooling down.

Before the real work begins, every trainer has a warm up routine to get your heart rate up. The warm-ups and cool-downs are crucial when you are new to a routine or if you are starting exercise for the first time in your life. It is as if you are taking a shower. You will first dip your toe in the water to test the temperature, letting your body know to what temperature of water to expect before stepping in. Similarly, a short warm up before any workout prepares your body and gives it a heads up for the exercise that lies ahead.

  1. Eat right, feel right

Let me ask you a question: Have you ever felt so insanely hungry during a workout that you felt the need to step out because you think that you were about to pass out? It has happened to me. We rarely plan our day according to the timing of our workout so then we end up not eating in time. But skipping meals makes you feel worse and it has a terrible impact on energy and stamina. You should aim to eat healthy food to fuel your body for exercise. It is often said that not having enough protein after a workout may make it less effective. Try having a protein bar or a shake after or during your workout. This will assure your body that it will get enough protein and energy to survive whatever you throw at it.

  1. Do your squats, drink your water

We lose a lot of water when we sweat. You know it. We know it. Yet somehow we don’t drink enough water. Remember it is a necessity; we can literally not live without it. Stay hydrated.
